We are excited to be back and better than ever. After a slow start last summer, problems with our web-host, and a possible hacking, we went to the Bahamas, then settled in over the winter and regrouped. We scrapped what we had and went back to the drawing board. What lies before you is a new and streamlined version of Asbury Eats. Its intent and purpose has and will always be the same, to provide a gut check to the restaurateurs, bar owners, chefs, cooks, bartenders, servers, and hostesses in the area by “Serving Up Tasty Bites of Reality.”
To be completely honest and self-deprecating, the original plan of the site was quite grandiose and a little too ambitious in hindsight. It was a monster on paper and it would’ve sucked the energy out of what we have left after putting in 10-14 hours days. Let’s face it, there’s already a Yelp and an UrbanSpoon. Those sites serve the public’s purpose well and another one like it will just get lost in the mix. We stripped it all down and went back its genesis… the fact that we already get asked by total strangers while we’re out eating… what’s good, where else is good, etc. Now, we enjoy talking with people, especially about our favorite places here in the City by the Sea, but many times it’s while we’re eating.
Still, we do our best not to be rude, but we want to be able to just tell people, “Check out AsburyEats.com… you’ll read about all the places to check out, all the places to avoid and why, what our favorite dishes are, who to ask for at the bar, who we recommend for servers…” etc. etc. We can still talk with people, but not feel compelled to interrupt our gastronomic orgy of the tastebuds to who just happens to be passing by and wonders if the place is any good or not.
Bringing it back to basics was a no-brainer. Make it a place where people can read honest and detailed accounts of drinking and eating in Asbury Park. It’s not rocket science, we’re just writing reviews here… informative, funny, cringeworthy reviews. Just keep it simple and the rest falls into place.
Enjoy!
